Associate Pastor Job Description
Mission Statement of Hastings Park Bible Church :
“Bringing the Truth to Life.”
REQUIREMENTS
-Fully accredited pastor sharing Word and Sacrament
-Must have college level education for ministry
-Training, theological position and pastoral experience must be in keeping with the
doctrinal statement of Hastings Park Bible Church
-Musical ability a definite asset, but not absolutely essential
OVERALL CALL
-To enthusiastically support, motivate, inspire people to live out the mission of Hastings
Park Bible Church with an expectation of at least 40 hours per week.
Accountability
-The Associate Pastor is accountable to the Board of Elders and reporting to the Senior Pastor
RESPONSIBILITIES
Pastoral:
Worship Services including Holy Communion- share in leading, developing and -coordinating worship services, in consultation with Senior Pastor
Preaching- -according to schedule drawn up and agreed upon with Senior Pastor
Baptisms- -assist in any way required by the Senior Pastor
Weddings - - when requested or when delegated by Senior Pastor
Funerals- - when requested
Counseling-- as qualified and trained in this field, under Senior Pastor
Visitations - -share visitation of members , shut-ins, hospital
New Members-actively seek avenues for new members’ participation /service within congregational structure
Evangelism:
Discovery Class - Facilitate classes for members interested in local outreach
Community Outreach- Pursue ways, along with members, to reach un-churched persons in surround ing community
Calling on visitors -call or call on visitors from local areas within week of first visit
Small Groups:
Care Groups/house churches-
-explore with Senior Pastor and Board of Elders the developing of small groups of congregation mem bers for various locals
-train leaders of small groups and oversee leaders and groups
Administration:
Staff Meetings - attend weekly meetings and facilitate when required
Elder’s Board - attend monthly and special meetings, including retreats
congregational meetings
Communication--Strive to maintain open communication in all congregation areas
Committee Responsibilities:
-lend leadership, vision and recruiting to ministry committees.
-committee responsibilities will be divided with the Senior Pastor according to the gifts
and interest of each.
Education:-facilitate training, co-ordination, recruiting and encouraging leaders for:
Children and Youth Christian Education
Vacation Bible School
Adult Bible Studies
Develop innovative adult education programs and experiences
Team Ministry:
-Support the vision, mission and policies of Hastings Park Bible Church within the
pastoral team, staff and congregation
-Develop a trusting relationship with staff members and church leaders
-Offer mutual support and encouragement to the staff and church leadership
-Strive to resource the people of the congregation to teach and support the work of the
church
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
-Strive in word and action to be a worthy example of Christian living
-Possess a positive spirit and be able to listen
-Exhibit self-discipline, initiative and a strong work ethic
-Invest time on a continuing basis to develop one’s fullest potential of life in Christ
-Team player working for the good of the whole ministry
-Relate well to individuals and groups, especially young couples, families, youth
-Able to equip people for ministry
